Exile Chords & Lyrics

[Intro]
F#5 D#5 (2x)

[Verse 1]
F#5
I can see you standing, honey
D#5
With his arms around your body
F#5                                                         D#5
Laughin', but the joke's not funny at all
F#5
And it took you five whole minutes
D#5
To pack us up and leave me with it
F#5                                                      D#5
Holdin' all this love out here in the hall

[Chorus]
B5                C#5                    D#5
I think I've seen this film before
          C#5
And I didn't like the ending
B5                     C#5                  D#5
   You're not my homeland anymore
     C#5                           B5
So what am I defending now?
                      C#5                     D#5            F#
You were my town, now I'm in exile, seein' you out
B5               C#5                   D#m
I think I've seen this film before

[Interlude]
F#5     D#5       F#5      D#5
     Ooh,      ooh,      ooh

[Verse 2]
F#5
I can see you starin', honey
D#5
     Like he's just your understudy
F#5 D#5
Like you'd get your knuckles bloody for me
F#5
     Second, third, and hundredth chances
D#5
     Balancin' on breaking branches
F#5                                               D#5
Those eyes add insult to injury

[Chorus]
B5                 C#5                  D#5
I think I've seen this film before
          C#5
And I didn't like the ending
B5                  C#5               D#5
   I'm not your problem anymore
      C#5                         B5
So who am I offending now?
                      C#5                       D#5                   F#
You were my Crown, now I'm in exile, seein' you out
B5                C#5                 D#m
I think I've seen this film before

So step right out, there is no amount
               F#5/ B
Of crying I can do for you
            F#5
All this time
                                                F#5/D#
We always walked a very thin line

Exile Piano Tips
1. Take It Slow: It's counterintuitive, but the quickest way to get comfortable and sound great playing a song is to practice it very slowly at first. Steady rhythm and counting are crucial to sounding like a pro, so let yourself get used to feeling the beat at a slow, easy tempo. Once you can nail "Exile" slowly, *gradually* speed it up. You'll sound much better than if you jumped in at full speed!

2. Use The Pedal Wisely: Utilize the sustain pedal to connect the chords smoothly, timing your lifts with the arrival of a new chord. For help with sustain pedal timing, check out this video.

3. Simplify if need be: "Exile" still sounds great even if you simply hold out the chords and ignore most of the rhythm patterns and extra details in the tutorial video. Feel free to keep it simple, especially if you sing while playing. As you get comfortable, you can always add the fancy stuff later.
